History
Jason L. Cordes came to the Wegmann Firm in December of 2005 from the Barklage Law Firm in St. Charles, a firm engaged chiefly in estate planning. In his time at the Wegmann Law Firm Mr. Cordes has had a tremendous opportunity to continue his work in estate planning and to branch out into the area of estate administration.
In addition to estate planning and administration, Mr. Cordes has been exposed to the insurance defense/civil litigation aspect of the firm and has been preparing and arguing numerous motions on behalf of the firms' extensive insurance defense and personal injury clientele.
Further, Mr. Cordes has gained experience in a vast number of other areas. He has served in a Prosecuting Attorney role in municipal night courts, and has undertaken substantial work on behalf of the firms' political subdivision clients. While undertaking such tasks, Mr. Cordes has had exposure to various areas of property and easement and sovereign immunity law.
Prior to entering the private practice of law, Mr. Cordes worked as an attorney for the Missouri General Assembly, in the Capitol Building, in Jefferson City, Missouri. There he developed research and legislative writing skills that will no doubt prove to be of great benefit in drafting ordinances for the firms' municipal clientele.
Mr. Cordes received his law degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, graduating in 2003. While at the University's Law School, he was a member of the Missouri Environmental Law and Policy Review, a publication in which he was twice published as the author of a pair of case notes dealing with the impact of the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation Liability Act (CERCLA). Additionally, he was a staff writer, and later business manager for The Gavel, the law school's student newspaper. Also, while in law school, he spent a summer interning in the chambers of United States District Court Judge E. Richard Webber.
On a personal note, Mr. Cordes is a bit of student of both Supreme Court History and the American Civil War, a Rams fan, and a fan of the shooting sports. He makes his home in Arnold, Missouri, and is a member of the Hillsboro Civic Club. Also, he has a great deal of family in St. Louis, Jefferson, and St. Francois Counties.
